Plans are to organize a LEO club in the Seneca High School have been delayed. We can't seem to get the school staff motivated.
FUND RAISERS:Our next will be our pancake breakfast in early April.
We have engaged a new optometrist to furnish eye exams and glasses for our sight program. Dr Frank Forgnoni has offices in Pendleton and Westminster.
Plans are being made for a fundraiser to support Campaign SightFirst II. Our pledge is $2,600.00. (Completed)
New officers for 2008-2009 was installed at our
June 24 meeting, the installing officer was Lion PDG Frank Merritt of the Easley Lions Club.
Coming events:
Ongoing activities of our club are: Eye exams and glasses for needy citizens,average seven pair per month.Recently we screened over 700 Middle School students in Oconee County. Plans are to screen again in late 2008 and early 2009.
Collection of used Eye glasses, avareges 300 pair per month.
We collect,package and ship used eye glasses each month.
Made acontribution of 1,000.00 South Carolina Lions Charitable Services. Help support our S C Lions Eye Research Center and Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, SC.
Contribute to the Vitamin A fund.
Help support Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Mi. and much more.
Our vision screening at the Middle Schools were a complete success. We ccreened 444 seventh graders at the two schools with about 12% needing attention with their sight.
We are currently helping the Home Bound missions here in seneca, Meals are prepared each Saturday for approxamately 175 shut ins, our members donate canned goods each month and we pick up food items from the Bi-LO stores in Seneca and Pendleton, The Hamilton Career center provides the entree. Two members pick up the first Friday of each month.
The Peace Poster contest at the Seneca Middle School will be iniated again this year.
Also voted to contribute $100.00 to the Lions fishing outing for the blind and visually impaired.
Plans are being made to hold a broom sale at the local Walmart store as well as sell tickets for our upcoming PANCAKE breakfast.
New request for Eye glasses continue to come in at a steady pace, seems there is no end to the need for the less fortunate in Seneca.
